I Am A 23 Year Old Female, And I Have Never Dieted, Played Sports, Or Exercised Regularly So Where Do I Start?
I’m looking for a low-cost solution. I am not obese, but I’m getting way too pudgy. I am 5’4″ and my weight fluctuates from about 129 lbs to 139 lbs. Being out of shape affects me very negatively. Butt, legs, tummy, love handles: those are what need serious attention, and I’ve listed them in order of urgency. I have a history using drugs, specifically uppers. The use of such drugs increased my energy and lowered my appetite. That is probably the only reason that I am not obese. I am clean of drugs, and would like to stay that way. This is another reason why learning to be healthy is very important (and very difficult). As a result of quitting drugs, I have tried to replace that void with food. I don’t so much need help the addiction to food/drugs (I get those answers elsehwere) or lists of “what not to eat”.
I’m sure it would add to my health but, If I walk my dogs 3 times a week and go swimming 3 times a week, would I physically look better? How long would that take?..

Okay, before we can talk about you losing weight I want to cover this with you.
Nothing, nothing about you is more important than your internal and external health. What you put into your body is everything. Think of your body as another person that your brain lives in, you need to care for it. Treat it with respect, give it what it needs.
You only have ONE body. That’s it, it’s your body for the rest of your life, you can’t destroy it. It’s your everything, it allows you to live your daily life.
View this step you’re about to take as a permanent step. You can’t just be eating well and exercising until you get to your goal. Because if you get there and stop, then you’ll just ease right back into where you started.
So, where do you start? Start by walking your dog 7 times a week. For your dog and you. Yeah you might lose a tiny bit of weight, but what we really want is for you starting to get physical activity.
Get a membership to your local gym (not the expensive one, well unless you can afford it). Gyms are perfect, they have treadmills, free weights, machines, yoga classes, swimming pools, kick boxing classes, spin classes, etc. You don’t have to go there to get all macho. Just go, find something you really enjoy doing and do it. Do it for your body, it really deserves it.
If you don’t know what you want to do at the gym, ask somebody who works there for advice on what you could do. If you really want you could even hire a personal trainer.
Try your best to get physical activity every day. It doesn’t have to be a hard work out, in fact it’s not good to have a hard workout EVERY day. It could just be walking your dog, like you said. 10 minutes is better than no minutes.
Good luck! I know you can do it!
I am close to your size and have recently cut out the majority of sugar in my diet. I also walk a lot. I’m not much for intense exercise so I just do a lot of walking.
Instead of drinking juice steadily (what I used to do) I know drink pretty much only water… That has made quite a difference.
For snacks, I keep them below 10g of sugar per serving as a guide line.
the best thing; start from the bottom,
your body needs to learn movement, so I suggest
walking half an hour
then comes jogging
then comes what ever u wish to do
Cut down on foods and WAY down on sugar and not just candy sugar anything that is white, white bread, white potatos, etc. they turn to fat in you stomach
