    I would say you would identify calorific values of foodstuffs consumed & add them together

    INTAKE:
    Intake is usually measured by either – food diary (where the person writes in everything they eat as they go along) usually 3 days, but 5 to 7 is more accurate for an average intake.
    or by 24 hour recall
    or by a Food Frequency Questionnaire.
    I would usually use the 1st, and have it analysed using a nutrition program.
