Is Science And The Evolution Of Technology Helping The World Of Sport Or Making It Loose Its Spirit?

I know looking back when TVs were black and white (metaphorically speaking), sporting legends such as Babe Ruth worked hard to play, the fields then were larger and pitch was bigger, where as today everything seems to be a lot easier for the “elite athlete”. I guess what I’m trying to say is, has science and the evolution of technology help with sport, making the elite ‘Athletes’ sport performance and ability improve. where Advances in diet, sports coaching,training methods and sports medicine has had very little impact in relation.
